Welcome to Snows Heights Outdoor Centre Web Site

Snows Heights Outdoor Centre was purchased in December 1966 by the Blackpool secondary schools who set up Snows Heights Management Committee (a registered charity). This committee is responsible for the day to day running of the site and the development of the centre. The management committee together with many volunteer helpers have continued to improve the facilities over the years.

We now have a outdoor centre that  :-

is easy for party leaders to run
is comfortable with all rooms centrally heated
still gives young people a sense of adventure

The centre is situated in the southern part of the Lake District and consists of 14 acres of wooded hillside. It is accessed by a forest track from a narrow gated road. Ample parking is available at the end of the track.

Look in "Gallery" to view photographs of the site and the accommodation.

The centre can accommodate up to 27 people in wooden units and there are numerous small areas suitable for camping. When you book the centre you have exclusive use of the whole site, which includes any camping. Snows Heights is situated outside of the tourist areas and therefore it is very easy to reach. It is in gentle walking country not far from sea or the mountains. It is an excellent base for field studies in geography, biology etc. and is within easy reach of the major fells and lakes affording many opportunities for outdoor pursuits and Duke of Edinburgh's Award activities. Those planning to use the centre for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award should note that it is situated in Silver Country. Any bona fide youth organisation may use Snows Heights Outdoor Centre.

Thanks to a grant from Neighbourhood Renewal Community Chest we now have the means to replace one of the existing cabins with a purpose built disabled sleeping unit. The unit will sleep up to two people and will incorporate the usual fixtures and fitting to make access and use easy. This stage of the work should be completed by spring 2006. Eventually this unit will be fitted with toilet and shower.
